Project 33: Planetary Dignities and Character
Objective
To investigate whether "Essential Dignity" (a planet's strength by sign) correlates with professional success in relevant fields, using a dataset of 758 Creative Geniuses (Project 16 data).
Methodology
- Metric: Standard Ptolemaic Dignity Scores.
- Domicile (+5)
- Exaltation (+4)
- Peregrine (0)
- Detriment (-5)
- Fall (-4)
- Controls: Comparison of specific occupations (e.g., Writers) against the rest of the high-achievement dataset.
Key Findings
1. Writers (n=139)
Significant findings (p < 0.05):
- Mars (Diff: -0.80, p=0.011): Writers have significantly WEAKER Mars (more Debility) than other creative geniuses. This aligns with the archetype of the writer as observer rather than action-hero.
- Sun (Diff: -0.46, p=0.07): Writers generally have lower solar dignity (less ego-drive/leadership focus?).
- Moon (Diff: +0.46, p=0.05): Writers tend to have Stronger Moons (Domicile in Cancer/Exaltation in Taurus), suggesting heightened emotional sensitivity and imagination.
2. Filmmakers (n=53)
Significant findings:
- Sun (Diff: +0.85, p=0.027): Filmmakers have significantly STRONGER Sun placements (Leo/Aries). This makes sense for the "Director" role—a singular vision leading a massive team.
- Moon (Diff: -0.81, p=0.06): Tendency toward Moon debility (Scorpio/Capricorn), perhaps indicating the obsession/darker emotional themes often present in auteur cinema.
3. Null Results (The Surprises)
- Artists & Venus: No significant deviation. Artists do not have "stronger" Venus signs than Scientists or Writers. Aesthetics may be governed by aspects (see Project 16) rather than Sign Dignity.
- Scientists & Mercury/Saturn: No significant deviation. Intellectual brilliance does not require Mercury to be in Gemini/Virgo.
Conclusion
Essential Dignity appears to be a mixed predictor. It works well for Directors (Sun) and distinction in Writers (Mars weakness, Moon strength), but fails to distinguish visual artists or musicians. This suggests that "Talent" often comes from friction (Aspects) rather than pure "Strength" (Dignity), or that modern professions are more complex than medieval planetary archetypes.
Visualizations
Heatmaps and histograms with both conventional Tropical and Vedic placements showing how each profession deviates from the average dignity score.*
Phase 2: Vedic Analysis (Sidereal/Lahiri)
A comparative analysis was run using the Sidereal Zodiac (Lahiri Ayanamsa) to see if shifting the zodiac frame improved the signal.
Significant Result: Inventors & Saturn
- Inventors (n=30) showed a massive boost in Saturn Dignity in the Sidereal framework.
- Diff: +1.17 score (p=0.045).
- Interpretation: Saturn rules structure, engineering, mechanics, and reality. While Tropical Saturn showed no signal for Inventors, the Sidereal placement (often shifting into Libra or Capricorn) revealed a strong correlation. This suggests that for technical/mechanical genius, the Sidereal zodiac might be more responsive.
Comparison: | Occupation | Planet | Tropical P-Val | Sidereal P-Val | Conclusion | |---|---|---|---|---| | Filmmakers | Sun | 0.027 | 0.057 | Tropical Stronger | | Writers | Mars | 0.011 | 0.45 (NS) | Tropical Much Stronger | | Inventors | Saturn | 0.52 (NS) | 0.045 | Sidereal Specific |
Note: The "Writer" signal (Weak Mars) completely vanished in Sidereal, suggesting that effect is tied to the Tropical seasonal zodiac or is coincidental.
